Short bio
I obtained my PhD in theoretical physics from the University of Helsinki
in 2004. After this, I worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the
University of Washington (2004-2007), the Technical University of Vienna
(2007) as well as CERN, Geneva (2008-2009). From Switzerland I moved on to
Germany and Bielefeld, where I have since the fall of 2009 headed a Sofja
Kovalevskaja research group, funded by the Alexander von Humboldt
foundation.

Research interests
My research revolves mostly around questions related to QCD and other quantum field theories at finite temperature and density. The physical systems of interest include heavy ion collisions, the interiors of compact stars, as well as the early universe, while the methods used range from perturbation theory to effective theories and the gauge/gravity duality. I am also interested in the application of these techniques to other physical settings, such as low energy hadron physics, condensed matter systems and (beyond) the Standard Model phenomenology.
